Are you aware of the sleep’s role and pleasant rhythm of circadian? Don’t worry if you don’t know because we will tell you more about it. It revolves around Melatonin, a hormone. This hormone is produced in the right amount when the circadian rhythm is set up. Post-production of this hormone, the result reduces pigmentation, hair fall, ageing and many other issues.
The pineal gland does the secretion of this hormone. This gland is responsible for regulating the sleep-wake cycle. All those people who either suffer from jet lag or have irregular work shifts are prescribed with it in the tablet form. This helps in regulating their circadian cycle and is considered the right but short-term treatment.
Not only this, but the hormone also has many antioxidant benefits. Today, everybody is living a life full of stress and with any stress; you witness the release of free oxygen radicals. These are released in the body and cause damage to DNA. This results in autoimmune and degenerative diseases. Furthermore, melatonin acts as a potent antioxidant, an anti-cancer agent and a possible anti-aging substance.
There are many advantages to maintaining proper sleep and taking quality one as well. The cycle of sleep-wake is governed by two hormones melatonin and cortisol. As per the estimates of experts, 75 per cent of this hormone is discharged when you are sleeping. It is released when the person sleeping reaches the third stage, i.e., typically 1-1.5 hrs after when the person has fallen asleep. Lack of sleep or changed cycles influences this hormone release. In youngsters, it will impact their development and wellbeing.
A significant relation is found in a way liver functions and how we sleep. According to various scientific studies, it was concluded that many patients have advanced liver diseases because of disturbed sleeping patterns. The liver has its clock where it detoxifies and regulates the release of hormones.
When a person experiences a disturbed sleep pattern, they witness an increased level of cortisol and vice-versa. When this happens, the hormone regulation by the liver is disrupted and increases the level of cortisol in the body during the day, bringing exhaustion and sluggishness during the day and restlessness during the night.
Although there are many formulations that you can easily find in the market (available in tablet and gel form), you must not forget that melatonin hormone is produced in the right amount only in the night time.
